The Anglo-American Legal Heritage: Introductory Materials
Published in Hardcover by Carolina Academic Press (April, 1999)
Average review score:

Brilliant history of the Anglo-American legal traditionI was a student in Professor Coquillette's English Legal History course last year, and we used his book as the single source for our study. The book is largely a collection of a vast array of original sources, carefully explained and placed in historical context by Professor Coquillette. The book is like his lectures: clear, concise and fun. After struggling through the first year of law school, the Anglo-American Legal Heritage tied the morass of contracts, torts and property together into a comprehensible whole. The law cannot be understood without the proper historical context -- Prof. Coquillette's book is the best single source for that context.

An Angry World
Published in Paperback by Peace Books (01 December, 1997)
Average review score:

An Angry World dives into our conscious.Kendall Fredrick Person has written one dazzler of a novel. A master of the English language, his words aren't just to be read but savored, talked about and explored. The story evolves around an accident involving a young child and how everyone in his world reacts to the trajedy. While the novel certainly lives up to its title, Person is careful not to offer a tragedy without hope. Ironically, the novel actually is about redemption of the human spirit and the ongoing quest for peace, tranquility and love. There is a host of charaters, from Arizona and Johnnie, the child's parents, to Dave Roberts the leader of a white hate group, Ricky Swift, the leader of a Black hate group and unbelievably, God Almighty himself. Only a novelist who truly understands the craft of writing could combine fact and fiction, hate and love, and redemption and condemnation within the same story without missing a beat. His words literally take a reader inside of the book where you can feel every angry word and are overcome with conviction at the present of the Holy Spirit. This is not a religious novel, but rather attempts to show us how to locate our inner peace even when the world is burning down around us. If Person's latest release doesn't catapult him into mainstream, then this truly is An Angry World.

Anselm Kiefer
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (07 November, 2001)
Average review score:

The pictures do the talkingThis is a beautiful book which covers some of Kiefer's best work in painting as well as his photo-montage and book making activities. A small and eloquent tribute and forward leave adequate room for many full color reproductions (some double-paged) of paintings, large black and white photos taken by the artist, photos of installations and performances and reproductions of selections from his book makings. The reproductions are bright and clear and attempt to give you an adequate view of the texture and matter that Kiefer paints with. Kiefer is one of the most prodigious and poetic artists of our time. He stands out individually in our present, sometimes cynical art atmosphere in the age of post-modern theory. These are magical paintings that contain deep myth and meaning. A truly beautiful book on beautiful and revealing art that can change your view of the world.

Anti-Semitism, Fascism and the Holocaust - A critical review of Daniel Goldhagen's Hitler's Willing Executioners
Published in Paperback by Mehring Books, Inc. ()
Average review score:

David North challenges Goldhagen's view of the HolocaustMuch public attention has been focused on Daniel Goldhagen's "Hitler's Willing Executioners" and his claim that the roots of the genocide of European Jews were to be found in the German national psyche. In his critique of Goldhagen's book, David North challenges its depiction of Germany in the 1930's as an internally undifferentiated society, as well as its deeply pessimistic view that the triumph of fscism was inevitable. North points instead to the social roots of anti-Semitism, traces the long and honorable record of the German workers' movement led by socialists in defending democratic the rights of the Jewish people and analyzes the reasons for the failure of the Social Democratic and Communist parties to block Hitler's rise to power.

Apache Administrator's Handbook
Published in Paperback by SAMS (12 March, 2002)
Average review score:

Lots Of Good InformationKnowing little about web servers and nothing about Apache, I was looking for some detailed help installing and configuring Apache. The online docs were no help. I needed something that would explain, at a basic level, what needed to be done to get Apache going.
I found this book very helpful in setting up my server. It covered everything about installing and configuring Apache. Config files were explained in detail. Integration with perl and php were wll covered. I also found the chapters on Security and logging helpful as well.
This book is geared toward Unix servers but also contains specific information for the Win32 crowd. I highly recommend this book.

Save some money...If you plan to hike the AT and are on a tight budget, save some money by buying an older edition of the Data Book. It changes very little from year to year. I have this book, and it is virtually identical to the 2003 edition.
AT Data Book ReviewThis is an necessity for hiking the Appalachian Trail- whether you're a section hiker or a thru-hiker. Crucial information- incredibly informative, and helpful in planning the long trek!

Appalachian Trail Guide to New York-New Jersey: New York-New Jersey Trail Conference
Published in Paperback by Appalachian Trail Conference (01 March, 1998)
Average review score:

The "Bible" used by the serious thru-hikers of the A.T.If the reader is really serious about hiking the A.T., specifically the N.Y. /N.J. section, this book, along with the 6 very detailed maps that come with it, will be a tremendous help, with all the relevant information all packed into a (large)pocket-sized paperback.
In addition to very interesting facts behind the history and the beginnings of the AT, the information found in this book will guide you, almost hold your hand along the trail and, it will then be up to you to listen to the wisdom, advice and warnings found here or, ignore them and find out -the hard way- why only 10% of the people who attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail will finish it in a year.
Where can you find water?; where are you not allowed to camp?; is it safe to hike alone?;can you take your dog with you? (NO!). Statistically speaking, did you know that you will be safer hiking the entire A.T., than walking the streets of most large american cities?
These and many other topics, too numerous to mention here, are dealt with in this volume.
Having all of that information ahead of time will make it (just a little) easier to put on your backpack, lug your 3 liters of water needed daily, consume the 4000 calories of food needed every day and.....in about 6 months time you will have arrived at your destination, very tired, much thinner and, much wiser.
